Santa Rosa mushroomed, after Alfred Hitchcock filmed "Shadow of a Doubt" there. During the early boom years, a new city took shape to the south of Santa Rosa. There is nothing old and established about Rohnert Park which encompasses a land area of approximately 6.4 square miles. It is a modern, flat suburb with Sonoma State University in its environs. Thoughtfully designed for families, it is one of the first planned communities in the United States although it never sprouted a downtown. Instead, you'll find bikeways and walkways that connect its tree-lined boulevards and attractive neighborhoods. In fact, Rohnert Park has more public and private recreational facilities and opportunities per capita than any other city in the North Bay. The master plan, the first in the United States, divided the city into neighborhood sections of 200-250 homes centered around a park and an elementary school. The population of Rohnert Park is 41,871 and the average home price is $467,043.
